Is Celebrating “Onederland” Still a Thing?

Detaching From the Scale

This morning, I stepped on the scale and saw 199.8.

For people who have dieted for years, there’s a name for this milestone: Onederland. And yes, for me it’s still a thing! Especially when I’ve spent more than a decade hovering well above it.

For a long time, my weight felt like something that happened to me rather than something I had any control over. About six years ago, I made a conscious decision to detach emotionally from the scale and focus on overall health instead. I started paying attention to my hunger cues. I worked on separating physical hunger from boredom, stress, or exhaustion. Sometimes that meant choosing a cup of black tea, rest, or distraction instead of food.

That awareness took years to build, but even then, weight loss didn’t come easily.

The Weight That Wouldn’t Budge

I lost and regained the same 10 to 12 pounds over and over again. My body seemed content sitting around 237 pounds, a weight where I felt physically full and satisfied, even though I was clearly out of shape and clinically obese at 5’6. My labs and blood pressure were normal, but my habits weren’t ideal. I love sugar! I ate more saturated fat than my body needed. And while I wasn’t bingeing the way I once did, my appetite still felt louder than other people’s.

Before starting GLP-1 medication, I had already been on a weight-loss journey for about two years. I was eating when hungry, stopping when full, and exercising consistently. What surprised me during that time was how hungry I felt at night. Falling asleep while hunger felt almost impossible. That constant nighttime hunger explained a lot about why weight loss had always been such a struggle.

The Quiet I Didn’t Expect

When I started Semaglutide about five and a half months ago, the quiet was shocking.

I could go to bed physically hungry, stomach growling, without the overwhelming urge to eat. For the first time, food noise wasn’t running my evenings. Portions that once felt insufficient were suddenly enough. Instead of tracking calories, I focused on portion size. Half a cup of rice instead of one and a half cup. Three to four ounces of protein instead of six or eight ounces. That shift worked for me in a way calorie counting never did.

Progress That Feels Sustainable

As of today, I’ve lost 19.8 pounds since starting GLP-1, and I’ve reached 199.8 pounds. I didn’t lose 50 pounds in six months, and I’ll admit I sometimes feel underwhelmed by the pace. But the measurements tell a different story. I’ve lost inches across my body, especially around my stomach and thighs. More importantly, the process has felt calm and sustainable.

The Reality Check

There are side effects; constipation, mild nausea, discomfort after heavy carb meals but overall, I’m grateful. Grateful that hunger no longer dominates my thoughts. Grateful that movement is now a habit instead of punishment. Grateful that hope feels realistic.

What Onederland Really Means to Me

Being in Onederland after 13 years is both exciting and a little unsettling. I know this medication isn’t meant to be lifelong. I don’t have all the answers yet. But today, I’m choosing to stay present.

For now, this milestone matters. Not because of the number, but because it represents progress that finally feels possible.

Tracking Progress Beyond the Scale

Tracking my progress has been much easier with the FITINDEX smart scale.

I’ve owned this scale for years, and it’s still one of my favorite tools for staying grounded during my weight loss journey. It does more than just show a number. The scale syncs via Bluetooth to an app that tracks weight trends over time, along with metrics like BMI, body fat percentage, muscle mass, and more.

What I appreciate most is being able to see patterns, not just daily fluctuations. Especially during weeks when the scale barely moves, the app helps me see progress I might otherwise miss. Inches lost, body composition shifts, and long-term trends have been far more encouraging than a single weigh-in.

It’s affordable, reliable, and has been a consistent part of how I track progress without obsessing over the scale. You can find the FITINDEX scale on Amazon here.
